Paul Uppal is the UK’s first Small Business Commissioner taking up his appointment in October 2017.
Paul graduated from the University of Warwick with a degree in Politics and Sociology.
He has run his own successful small business in the construction and real estate sector for over 20 years.
He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wolverhampton South West (2010-2015), the only Sikh MP at that time

He lives in the West Midlands and is married with 3 children.
Paul’s first business mentor highlighted to him that cash flow would be the number one challenge. The options available to business , including how the commissioner can support SME’s, where they are the victim of late payment or unfavourable payment practices
