I joined the prison service in 1986 as an instructor at HMP Maidstone. My role within the New Futures Network involves connecting businesses with skilled serving prisoners and prison leavers. Employment opportunities help fulfil the recruitment needs of businesses and crucially give people with convictions a second chance.
My areas of experience include developing manufacturing solutions for British industry across a broad range of trades – increasingly working with companies with a sustainability dimension such as modular homes and solar panel suppliers. Additionally, I support prisoners/prison leavers in the agriculture and horticultural sectors where we are developing “Green Collar” workers; job-ready individuals who have acquired a portfolio of skills, qualifications and experience in this area and are able to go onto employment upon release.
