Johnson M George

General Manager, UAQ Free Trade Zone Authority

Johnson M. George is the General Manager of Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone (UAQFTZ), where he has been leading the organization since 2017. With over two decades of professional experience spanning corporate and commercial law, regulation, compliance and Free Zone development, he brings a strong legal and commercial perspective to his role.

Prior to joining UAQFTZ, Johnson held key positions within another prominent UAE Free Zone authority, serving in regulatory, compliance and in-house legal advisory capacities. This experience provided him with an extensive understanding of the UAE business environment, regulatory frameworks and the practical considerations faced by both local and international investors establishing and operating businesses in the country.

Since taking the helm at UAQFTZ, he has overseen the Free Zone’s development across multiple facets, including infrastructure and facilities, licensing, operations, investor services and the introduction of innovative and flexible business packages. He has worked closely with investors and businesses to understand their requirements and develop practical solutions that support companies from initial establishment through to expansion.

Under his leadership, UAQFTZ has continued to broaden its offering and develop its infrastructure, services and investor support ecosystem to meet the changing requirements of entrepreneurs, SMEs, manufacturers and international companies. His legal and regulatory background, combined with extensive hands-on experience in Free Zone management, has enabled him to approach business development with a strong emphasis on compliance, commercial practicality and investor confidence.

Johnson continues to oversee the strategic direction and development of UAQFTZ, with a focus on sustainable growth, strengthening the investor experience and creating an environment in which businesses can establish, operate and grow successfully in the UAE. Through his work, he also contributes to the wider economic development ambitions of Umm Al Quwain and the United Arab Emirates.
